How it works

How a participatory art experience comes together

The practical details, in one place, ready to forward to whoever approves the plan.

Four steps from first call to finished artwork

  1. A 20 minute conversation

We learn about your group, your goal and your timeline. Calls run Mondays and Tuesdays.

  2. A recommendation and estimate

We recommend a format and send an estimate, with the session plan shaped around what you want people to feel and take away.

  3. The experience

We arrive early, set up, facilitate every step and leave the space as we found it.

  4. What you keep

The artwork, photographs of the process, and participants’ reflections in their own words.

Questions planners ask

Frequently asked questions

Do people need to be artists?

No. Every session is designed for people who have not painted since school. Prompts are simple, materials are forgiving, and the focus is on what a mark means rather than how it looks. People who say they cannot draw are often the ones most proud of what they made.

How do you bring along people who are hesitant?

Everyone takes part at their own pace. Nothing has to be shown or explained in front of the group, and there is always more than one way to contribute: painting, choosing colours, writing a word, or adding to someone else’s piece. Quieter people often find this the easiest way to be heard.

How many people can take part?

From small leadership teams to conference crowds of more than 1,000. Staffing grows with the group: additional facilitators for larger sessions, and concurrent stations for events.

Do you come to our office?

Yes. Every session is on site: at your office, your offsite or retreat venue, or your conference. We bring all materials and set up and clean up ourselves. Remote teams join online with kits shipped to their homes.

How is this different from a paint and sip?

A paint and sip teaches everyone to copy one picture. Our sessions are designed around your team’s goal: people create one shared artwork about something that matters to them, guided by a professional facilitator, and the conversation it sparks continues back at work.

How long does a session take?

45 to 90 minutes, a half day, a full day, or a series of sessions over weeks or months. We recommend a length once we know your goal.

What space do you need?

Usually a room with tables or open floor space, good light and access to water. For walls, outdoor sites and venues with special requirements, we plan the details with your venue in advance.

Who handles setup and clean-up?

We do. We bring every material, protect surfaces, set up before your group arrives, and take everything away afterwards. Setup and clean-up are timed into the plan so your venue is handed back as we found it.

Is it accessible?

Yes. Every activity can be done seated, materials can be adapted for limited dexterity, and there are ways to take part without speaking. Let us know about mobility, sensory or scent needs and we design around them.

Do you work virtually or hybrid?

Yes, both. Virtual sessions run on live video with an art kit shipped to each participant. Art Dialogues with the University of Victoria ran entirely online over four months, and hybrid sessions bring remote and in-room participants into one artwork.

Do you travel?

The studio is based in Denver and works across Colorado, North America and beyond. Any travel costs are named up front in your estimate.

What does it cost?

Every engagement is priced for the whole group, not per person, and designed around your goal. What shapes a budget: group size, length and number of sessions, the scale and permanence of the artwork, materials, and travel. Share your group size and goal and we send an estimate, usually within two business days.

What do we walk away with?

A finished artwork your group created, photographs of the process, and a shared reference point your team keeps returning to. Longer engagements also leave trained facilitators inside your organisation.

How do we know it worked?

We agree with you up front on what you want to be different afterwards, and close each session with a short reflection where participants name what they are taking with them. You receive those reflections alongside the documentation, ready for your report.

Insurance, W-9 and vendor setup?

Contracts and invoicing run through 5280 Wall Art LLC. A certificate of insurance and a W-9 are available on request, and we are glad to complete your vendor onboarding paperwork.

Not sure which format fits?

Tell us your group size, your goal and your timeline. We recommend a format and send an estimate, usually within two business days. Every engagement is priced for the whole group and designed around your goal.
